New Avenues toward detecting sub-GeV Dark Matter using AI and Superfluids

Speaker:I will discuss several new ideas for detecting dark matter particles with substantially lower energy thresholds than current state-of-the-art experiments. One research direction is focusing on developing new organic scintillating materials using generative AI and quantum chemistry. The second promising direction is the use of superfluids, and in particular superfluid He3 that allows testing spin-dependent interactions. Here the properties of the superfluid and quasiparticle production that is detected by quantum devices is key to a better energy injection sensitivity. I will discuss the ongoing searches with the superfluid He3 experiment QUEST-DMC in the UK, and present some ideas we plan on testing in the future.
