COVID 19 - Modeling Infection Dynamics
CONTEXT:
As in many countries, the explosion of COVID-19 infection causes enormous concerns. In some countries the health systems have collapsed. Most of the governments recommend social isolation as a necessary attitude to flatten the curve of infection. However, in Brazil, some politicians do not consider COVID-19 as a serious threat to the country.
In the last month, some research groups gathering physicists, biologists, physicians, epidemiologists, mathematicians and other professionals, have performed simulations describing the dynamics of virus expansion and called attention to the problem.
In order to better understand these dynamics and the basic premises of the models, the International Institute of Physics – IIP (www.iip.ufrn.br) has planned a virtual meeting to discuss the COVID-19 spread and possible public policies which already have been implemented in other countries and which could also be of great importance to Brazil.
