Nanoscopic systems present a wealth of unique physical properties not always present in bulk materials. Recent advances in growth and fabrication techniques at the atomic scale brought the investigation of nanostructures to reality. Engineering materials at nanoscale opens novel perspectives in new technologies from electronics to renewable energies. Due to the confinement found at reduced dimensionality systems, nanostructures present unusual transport properties, and a better understanding of these properties is still lagging. In particular, the heat transport properties of nanostructured systems are still not well know nor understood today.

The workshop will bring together theoreticians and experimentalists to present the latest advances in methodology and techniques applied to the study of heat and electronic transport in nanostructures. This event will also promote the interaction among scientists working on the field with the aim of advancing the current understanding regarding thermal and electronic transport phenomena at the nanoscale. This topic converges the interests of scientists and engineers that traditionally have different backgrounds and belong to communities, which share similar interests but have little communication. Electronic engineers, statistical physicists, condensed matter physicists and chemists will be involved. Finally, the workshop will provide an opportunity for the relatively small community working in the area in Brazil to interact directly with other scientists with similar interests, both from Brazil and abroad. In view of the wide variety of new theoretical and experimental approaches in the field, not only specialized seminars but also pedagogical lectures aimed at students will be presented.
